Move Man!

As we were driving in our neighborhood tonight, the monkey sees a group of people walking in front of us – he is clearly upset with them when he calls out, “Move Man, we’re driving through there!”

I think I need to be more careful about what I say while driving. I don’t usually think about it, but recently he has been calling out various things from the backseat – making me realize that I need to wash my own mouth out with some soap.

Some of the cleaner things:
“What are you stopping for cars? Keep going! There’s no reason to stop!”
“Green means go, c’mon cars let’s go!”
“Mama, why is everyone going so slow?”
“Mama, green means go, yellow means go really fast.”

It’s an adventure each day in the car… I think we need to start listening to audiobooks again. I’m much better in the car while somewhat distracted by an entertaining book.

Pasta Lover

Quote of the day:
I ask the monkey – “Do you want me to get you ready for bed?”

He replies – “No, I want you to get me ready for Mac & Cheese.”

Guess he knows what he wants. I mean, really, who wouldn’t rather have mac & cheese instead of getting ready for bed?

Leaf-Eaters with Horns

Quote of the Day:
“Mommy we are both leaf-eaters. We need to find our horns, maybe Thomas (the train) can help us find them.”

Drama & Carrots

I’m not a particularly dramatic person. I think I like things to be fairly low-key, boring even. 🙂 There has been more drama than I like in one area of my life recently. I’m hoping to change a few things to remove myself from the circle of drama. Luckily it’s just about time for summer break, so hopefully that will be what I need to recharge. Plus the hubby should be home during summer! He’s always good at putting the drama in its place.

Carrots… I was putting the monkey to bed last night – we’re reading stories and all of a sudden he says, “Mommy, I want carrots. Please go get me some right now.” Of course I didn’t because he was heading to dreamland, not carrot land. First thing this morning, “Morning mommy, can you get me some carrots? With ranch?” I assume he really wants some, so I put them, and the ranch, in his lunch box. I think I’m a pretty great mom, not only do I have carrots in the house, organic locally grown carrots, but I peeled and sliced them for his lunch.  ..  When we get home from school, I empty his lunch box and find that he didn’t eat a single carrot. Though he did eat his ranch. Maybe he just wanted the ranch?

My-Raq and Your-Raq

Last night the monkey and I were talking about daddy. He likes to tell people how daddy got on a plane and flew away from him. When people ask where daddy is, he tells them that he is at work. We’ve focused on this since daddy left the first time. Daddy is at work, he’ll be home when he’s done. Recently I thought it would be good to give him a more accurate description of where daddy is – since mommy goes to work each day, but manages to come home at night. So we talk about how daddy got on a plane to go to work in Iraq, which is very far away, and that is why he can’t come home to see us each day. The monkey listens patiently to my description and then tells me simply, “Daddy is in MyRaq, not YourRaq.” 🙂

He’s been asking to go see dinosaurs for a while, and we’re lucky enough to have several parks in the area that feature dinosaurs, so we do go see them a lot. This weekend he decided that we couldn’t go to the regular spots to see them, instead we need to go to Disney World. Each morning he wakes up and says “Good morning Mommy, can we go to Disney World today to see dinosaurs?” Very cute. I think we’ll have to make the trip this weekend, but I’m not sure how many dinosaurs he’s going to see…

He’s a rat!

Yesterday the monkey’s school was closed, luckily my parents live close and love to watch him as often as they can. Seems like they had a great day. They went to the golden arches, played, ate, and played more.

When I got home the monkey says to me, “Did you know grandpa drove your car today?” I said, “Really?”. He says, “Yes, he’s a really bad driver.” He said it all with such seriousness, he was completely ratting out grandpa (who had permission to drive the car – as it is the one with the carseat that is required for the monkey to go places…) and had strong opinions about the quality of gramp’s driving.

Each day he tells me something that makes me laugh. I’m going to *attempt* to document them here.

A/C, really?!?!

As I read some of my favorite bloggers’ daily posts, I find them discussing snow and the miserable cold, yet here I am with my air conditioning turned on. It’s the first time I’ve had to turn it on this year, so I guess that’s good. But still I’m annoyed that it’s needed already. Turning it on also makes me start to worry a little bit, that little worry demon popping his head up, about the energy consumption spiking last it did last summer. I don’t want to have to monitor it again, I simply don’t have the time…

On other fronts, I’ve finished all three seasons of my new favorite television show. Since I watched it so quickly, I’m now going back and rewatching many of the episodes. The next season won’t be out until September, so I have a while to go. I think I might start watching Mad Men next. If it’s available on NetFlicks on demand… we’ll see. They’re really flakey. I looked for a series 2 weeks ago and it wasn’t there and then it appeared this past weekend…

Okay – off to do homework and then maybe I’ll catch a new episode of Nurse Jackie or US of Tara tonight.

Homework week

I’m off from work for spring break. YAY!

So instead of doing something fun, I’m doing homework. ALL. WEEK. That’s the plan at least. I’m feeling a little burned out, so I’m trying to get a lot of work done this week to make the remaining 4 weeks of the term a little less stressful. Things didn’t start off well today though, when I found that I failed to turn in an assignment (actually 2) that was due yesterday. The instructor is overwhelmed too – so all is okay – she’s fine with me turning it in a little late. I sat at the monkey’s school today and managed to get 3/4 of it done while I was also volunteering. Tomorrow morning (and tonight) I will get the last 1/4 of it done. Then I’m off to coding interviews and working on NET*S.

On other fronts, I have a playdate scheduled with the monkey’s girlfriend this weekend. Her mother and I might work on doing a kid swap each weekend, if the playdates go well. We’re both full-time students and could use a little kid-free time to do homework. And they live just down the road – which is awesome. It could also mean good things for the summer and beyond. 🙂

My obsession with my new favorite tv show is a little out of control. I have to finish it or I will never get homework done again. I think my obsession might be due in part to the fact that I do not allow myself to watch tv anymore. So when I can watch it, I become obsessed. Oh well, only 1 1/2 episodes left of this season and then I have only one more season to go. Then I’ll have to wait until it comes back on television in the fall. It’s a great show, I hope the network doesn’t allow it to go all wacky like some other shows have gone on that network. Now that I’m thinking about it, I think I’ll go watch the rest of the episode I started during lunch. Then bed. Then up. Get monkey to school. And return home to do homework all day long. Whooppeee! Sounds like a great break!

Overabundance

I’m working on a paper for one of my courses. I’ve been collecting and analyzing data for this particular paper for probably about 8 or so weeks. It’s been a terrible time trying to get all of the required pieces combined into one document. Finally last night I was able to get it put into one AND it is now at about 75 pages long. If only I have this much stuff for my dissertation, I’ll have a 300 page dissertation!

In other fronts, my never ending involvement in activities led me to Epcot today. I was a chaperone for a student trip – I am currently the advisor for a club on my campus. We thought it would be great fun to go to a Disney park with students from our club and other clubs on campus. All together we had about 30 students and three advisors. I think everyone had a great time – maybe we will do it again next year. Unless I can convince them that we need to go to Europe instead. I’m not sure that would be as fun though, seems like it might be a bit too much stress for me to handle.

I have enough activities planned this weekend to fill up about 4 weekends, but am hoping that I can get them all accomplished in only one. I’ve got to finish this paper, grade my students’ work, go to a museum, respond to some of my classmates’ discussion posts, pick up my farm goods, grocery shop, do laundry, and play with the monkey boy.

🙂 It’ll all work out somehow – either everything will get done or it won’t.
