Handicap Buttons

The monster monkey apparently discovered and remembers what the glorious door-0pening handicap buttons are – we regularly use them when entering and exiting buildings that are so equipped, but in DC he was able to push them at our hotel. So – why is this important?? I had to do a volunteer orientation at my workplace the other night. Because I do not work during the summer (yay me!) and my husband is in Iraq, I need someone to look after the monkey during my “do-gooding”. So a friend came along with me and the monkey to the orientation. He found several of these buttons scattered around campus and delighted in pushing them. Not a problem until we decided it was time to head home – and he decided he would rather run through a courtyard pushing this buttons on each doorway he passed, eventually ending up in the library squealing about the magical button…

The library that has recently gotten several noise complaints, one in particular that mentions the rule about children not being welcome on campus… I do not think this particular rule applies to the campus library, as it is open to the public, but patrons interpret the rule to fit their situation…

An adventurous time on campus was had by all. 🙂

Though the husband is in Iraq (or perhaps because he is away), I am trying very hard to make this a super fun summer for the monkey. Each day we do something fun, most days we do several fun things. We are smart and live in the sunshine state, where the weather is wonderful all year long (even nicer here in the summer than in the Northeast according to current newstories). So we never run out of outside activities that we can do. Too bad some of them cost money – but he’ll only be a little one for a brief time, so we’ll spend it. When he’s in college and can’t afford to buy books he’ll hate me for it… but what can I do?  🙂

Maybe we’ll go to Disney next week! Yay for the Mouse (or Mousch if you’re the monkey).

Rough day

Monkey had a bit of a rough day today. I know we all have our days, but usually he’s a fairly happy cookie. Today he was just out of sorts for most of the day. He had a tantrum during swimming, threw himself to the tile floor on several occasions, and had MANY timeouts.

Now he is peacefully asleep in his room, with his fearless stead sleeping next to his bed. I think the endless sounds of fireworks have thrown him for a loop – thus the stead is helping him to feel secure. I’m sure he’s also missing his daddy. For a day or two he was okay, but now it is starting to seem really odd. A lot of changes for him in the last 3-4 weeks – Ebony’s passing, the cats and auntie moving out, daddy going away, and the endless boom, boom, boom outside.  AND the NEVER ENDING RAIN!

I hope he wakes up in a better mood tomorrow. We’re going to have a fun day – storytime, water park time and all around FUN!

I have finished yet another audiobook – that makes 3 finished since Sunday! Go Me!! Now I have to start the next and read a chapter or so in my book.

Adventures in the WC

Today is our first official day on our own. Nate left last week, but we still had Tara here to help out. She found a new place to live and is happily moved in. This leaves me with a huge empty space (where her bed was) in what was the workout room for my audiobooks! While monkey napped, I used up the space to sort and organize the audiobooks. YAY!

Now I just have to get back into a regular listening schedule. I’m shooting for 3 hours of listening each day. I think it can be done – I just have to make sure to do it!

Monkey is still asleep – or at least that’s what he’s led me to believe. Once he gets up, we’ll snack and try to get to the community pool for a quick swim before the huge thunderstorm arrives.

This weekend is the 4th of July. I’m not big on going out to watch fireworks, but I think Monkey would really enjoy it. If the local mall has the fireworks we can see them from the house. If not, we might go to Dade City for Sparklebration. We went there once – but left well before the fireworks. We’ll see… Maybe my mom will stop by for the fun.

Adventures in the ER

Trey had his first visit to the emergency room last night. He fell while carrying a dog can lid and sliced his hand open. It was quite a large wound, so he had to go to the hospital for stitches. It just happened to be during the worst rainstorm we’ve had here in years…
